The same desk, twice. The morning version and the evening version. Same wood, same window, same lamp, same coffee ring. Almost everything else is different.
Morning
The notebook is open to a fresh page. The pen is uncapped. The laptop is closed. The light is coming in over the left shoulder, which I learned a long time ago is not an accident.
Nothing on the desk is finished. That is the point. The morning desk is for the unfinished thing.
Evening
The notebook is closed. The laptop is open. The light is the lamp, dimmer than it was at three. There is a small stack of things I will get to tomorrow, organized by urgency, which is just another word for fear.
Almost everything on the desk is in progress. That is also the point. The evening desk is for the in-progress thing.
Same desk. Two different tools for two different parts of the day. The trick is to use the right desk for the right hour.
